Emma Sartin, PhD, MPH
Research Scientist, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Postdoc (2019-2022), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Dr. Emma Sartin is a K99/R00 recipient at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her work employs a mixed-methods approach to identify the causes of disparities in child occupant protection and crash injuries across the lifespan. She also conducts several translational and intervention studies to promote independent mobility and transportation access for autistic young adults, and works with industry partners to develop and evaluate health technology-based interventions and tools to mitigate poor safety and health outcomes for child and adolescent populations across the U.S. She completed her PhD in Lifespan Developmental Psychology and MPH in Health Behavior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. |

Avishek Karmakar, PhD
Research and Developmental Scientist, GenHydro Inc Postdoc (2021 - 2022), Drexel University Dr. Avishek Karmakar did his PhD from India in 2017 in Inorganic Chemistry from IISER Pune and then moved for first postdoctoral tenure at the National University of Singapore. He then moved to the US in early 2021 for his second postdoctoral tenure at Drexel University. Throughout his PhD and postdoctoral career, Avishek’s research has focused on porous inorganic-organic materials for applications related to clean energy and green environment. In mid of 2022, he joined as a gas separation scientist at GenHydro and since then he has been working at their R&D facility to make “carbon-free” hydrogen for clean energy applications. Jaye Gardiner, PhD
Postdoc, Fox Chase Cancer Center - Temple Health Dr. Jaye Gardiner is a Chicago native who attended the Cancer Biology graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There, she studied how HIV effectively spreads between cells and the resulting altered cellular behaviors for her dissertation. When looking for postdoctoral opportunities, she wanted to position herself in a place where her partner could find a postdoctoral position the following year. The abundance of institutions in Philadelphia met these requirements. Dr. Gardiner moved to Fox Chase Cancer Center as a postdoctoral fellow to research the fibrotic tumor microenvironment of pancreatic cancer and how the cells responsible (fibroblasts) are epigenetically regulated. Arijita Ghosh, PhD
Postdoc, Thomas Jefferson University Dr. Arijita Ghosh is a post-doctoral research fellow at Thomas Jefferson University. Her post-doctoral work entails studying mitochondrial signaling and dynamics in health and disease. She completed her PhD in 2019 from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. She moved to the US later that year to pursue her post-doctoral endeavors. She is also a member of the Jefferson Post-doctoral Association (JPA) in the capacity of Vice-President Communications where she is in charge of a newsletter focused on advocating thoughts and information elevating the experience of fellow peers in STEM. |

Khoa Tran, PhD
Postdoc, UPenn Perelman School of Medicine Dr. Khoa (“Kwa”) Tran received his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His graduate research examined epigenetic barriers to cellular reprogramming, the process of converting differentiated cells into induced-pluripotent stem cells. For his post-doctoral training, he joined the laboratory of Dr. Shelley Berger at the University of Pennsylvania where he is currently investigating how the metabolic and epigenetic environments communicate and contribute to age-related disorders. Khoa chose Philadelphia for his postdoctoral training because of the outstanding quality of research allowing him and his partner to be at the forefront of discoveries within their respective fields.
