Roshell Muir, PhD
Senior Research Associate, Drexel University Postdoc (2015 - 2018), Drexel University Panelist for 'International Postdoc Panel' Dr. Roshell Muir is a Senior Research Associate in immunology at Drexel College of Medicine (DUCOM), with expertise in systems immunology research and project management that straddle the fields of basic science and applied clinical studies, with a focus on how specialized cell subsets in the follicles can be targeted for novel vaccines against HIV, and other viral infections. In addition to her scientific pursuits, Dr. Muir has a great interest in gender, racial and ethnic disparities in science and medicine and has published several articles on well-being, equality of opportunities for underrepresented groups in academic medicine, and equality of patient access to clinical trials and her work has been covered by multiple media outlets, including U.S. News and Healio. |
During her time as a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Muir co-founded and served on the Executive Board of the Drexel Postdoctoral Association which brought together postdocs from all 15 colleges and schools across 3 campuses; and was the first postdoc representative to serve on the DUCOM Women in Medicine and Science faculty committee which promotes professional development for women staff and faculty. Dr. Muir is also actively involved with the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), and currently serves as the President-Elect of the local Philadelphia chapter. She has held leadership positions on the executive board for the past 4 years, including the Vice President-Chair of Programs role, where she brought valuable speakers, programs, and resources to the local professional community for women in academia and industry at all career levels. Dr. Muir is also an advisory board member for a recently awarded 5-year NIH R01 study on gender inequity in the biomedical field.
Dr. Muir is a recipient of the 2022 AWIS Meridian Award which recognizes professionals who are strong leaders, innovative thinkers and are committed to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility and she was a part of the 2021 AWIS-PHL board that received an AWIS National “Shooting Star” Award for strategic vision, for engaging in strategic planning for the 2021-2026 board years. Dr. Muir was also named as an emerging staff leader in 2021 by the DUCOM Office of Faculty and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which identifies deserving internal professional staff and faculty leaders.
